Today I took an afternoon trip to Stanpit Marshes, Christchurch. The day was a lovely December day with bright clear skies and not too cold either. Stanpit Marsh nature reserve at this time of year is a nice place to go looking for Stonechats. And today my luck was in as there were a few about posing on the gorse and brambles. Stanpit Marsh is an SSSI Nature Reserve run by Christchurch Council, and overlooks Mudeford Bay / Christchurch Harbour where the local two large rivers the Stour and Avon converge into the Sea. The marshes attract a range of birds and is a much visited location, offering a good walk around the North Side of the harbour with views to the Bay and back along the river to Christchurch Priory. Took a visit to Stanpit Marshes on Sunday, on a cold -2C February afternoon. The weather was fairly overcast and the tide fairly far out but I did manage to record the following images of the local wildlife.
