Radipole

Black Headed Gulls on Bridge

Radipole Nature Reserve is an RSPB reservein the centre of Weymouth, Dorest.  The reserve is a wetland with lots of reedbeds that provide shelter for a variety of birds, including Bearded Tits and Cetti Warblers.  Recent improvements to the walkways and the Visitor Centre have been made in 2012.  The walkways allow the photographer to overlook and access more of the reeds than in the past.  A hide which is open during till late afternoon (season dependent) that overlooks a small lake.  Here Herons can often be seen, and on occasions Spoonbills have been known to visit.  It is worth checking the board in the Visitor centre (where you can get refreshments from) for the recent sightings.

Near to the visitor centre is a bridge that crosses into the reserve from the car park.  (A charge applies to the car park).  Here people often feed the ducks and this area offers the photographer good close shooting of the feeding birds.  In recent years as well as the selection of Mallard and Tufted Ducks a lone Hooded Merganser has been staying at the reserve.
